Goblins after Dark

The last night of the trip I drove from Moab to Goblin Valley State Park, a mysterious and enticing place. After dark the moon started dominate the light, and the shapes took on an eery appearance.

Taughannock Falls

Since the last ice age Taughannock Falls has been receding from Cayuga Lake. As you stand and watch, you can see stone fall as the canyon grows.

The Arch

From the amazing work of photographers like Tom Till, to its prominent place on many Utah license plates, the Delicate Arch is a well known icon of the West. I’ve shot it a few times, and more often than not there is a huge crowd of photographers shooting it framing the La Sal mountains at sunset. Its a gorgeous scene, but this time I decided to see what an alternative would provide, and I can’t say the result was a disappointment.

Upheaval Dome

For many years people have puzzled over the origins of this crater in the Canyonlands National Park.  A few years ago a team of scientists found shocked quartz, all but confirming that the crater was created by a meteor some 170 million years ago.

Walking Man

Lightning is a fickle subject, and one of my favorite challenges. I captured this recently during some May storms that came through the area. Is it just me, or does it look like a walking man?
